Why use Cambridge Business Performance
Founder Statement
I have been working professionally within the field of mental heath and wellbeing for the past twenty years. Based on my clinical expertise and personal experience I have been able to develop a unique approach to tackling common workplace problems such as stress, burnout and perfectionism as well as using personal development techniques to encourage confidence, resilience and leadership skills.
I completed a BSc Honours degree in Combined Studies majoring in Psychology in 1989. I worked in a buddhist business in Cambridge for ten years experiencing the effectiveness of an ethical approach to business.
In 2004 I completed a fast track BSc Honours degree in Occupational Therapy at the Colchester Institute. I then worked within the NHS in Cambridgeshire most notably within the early intervention in psychosis service. It was within this role that I developed a special interest in supporting students to complete their studies through developing their resilience and well being. My experience is that improving wellbeing improves performance overall.
I left the NHS in 2014 to set up Cambridge Academic Performance, a service delivered by occupational therapists that fuses academic skills and mental health support for students. I developed an approach that focuses on improving performance using highly practical strategies in combination with personal development techniques.
In 2019, having been in two business incubators, the London School of Social Entrepreneurs and The Judge Business School in Cambridge, I began working within more business settings. I set up Cambridge Business Performance as a division of Cambridge Academic Performance, helping professionals to improve their performance through improved wellbeing.
My approach within individual sessions and group training is a combination of very practical strategies and therapeutic techniques. This is the hallmark of an occupational therapy approach and is highly effective.

Case Study – Maria
Perfectionist thinking led to confidence and performance issues
Summary
A pattern of perfectionist thinking reduced Maria’s ability to complete her workload in a timely manner. Exploring her emotional history and work behaviours lead to positive changes in her approach to work, performance and wellbeing.
Problem
Maria expressed a recent loss of confidence affecting her ability to complete her usual workload. This was causing her anxiety as she wished to succeed at work and be considered for promotion.
Intervention
Initial assessment identified a tendency towards perfectionist thinking and and underestimating her skills and achievements. By focusing on techniques to counteract her negative thinking Maria was able to consider time management strategies and develop a better work life balance. Maria was also supported to access additional psychological services.
Outcome
Maria made changes to her daily routine at home and work to aid self-management of her wellbeing. A more positive outlook and sense of control led to improved confidence and work performance.
